WHAT IS A FABRIC STRETCH SENSOR?

Our Fabric Stretch Sensors are a variant of the Silicone Stretch Sensor and works in much the same way. As the name implies, Instead of silicone these sensors are made from a conductive fabric. It is possible to manufacture them from a non-conductive fabric depending on your specific application needs. Our fabric sensors are ideal for wearable applications where the sensors are sewn into garments.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Similar to the Silicone Stretch Sensor, the Fabric Stretch Sensor can also be thought of as a flexible parallel plate capacitor. The two dimensions that change when the sensor is stretched are the thickness and the area of the conductive layers. This results in a change in capacitance. This change can be indirectly measured through an applied voltage to help determine how the much the sensor has stretched.
